Close up of small plant
Small plants growing on Anak Krakatau

The natural vegetation over there is being modified, most of them due to the biggest eruption of the volcano. Now, there are lesser natural vegetation ground at Anak Krakatau, the volcano which was formed after Mount Krakatau destroyed itself in its eruption in 1883.

The vegetation only covers around 45% to 50% of the ground. There are usually moss growth, small weeds and land grass on the rocks. There are small ferns stuck to the edge of the mountains too. Records showed that there are some small, rare species of plants on the volcano that has not been discovered yet. There are moss forests growing down the volcano, which stretches on for about 650m.
